LGBTQIA+: a rainbow of stories

What do we really see when we read the acronym LGBTQIA+?
Often, just letters. Perhaps a few terms like ‘lesbian’ or ‘gay’. We, however, see stories. Like that of Lucia, a talkative bookseller. Or Tania, a feisty translator from Tuscany. Or even Giacomo, a globetrotting journalist. For the Centro Arcobaleno, an anti-discrimination centre focusing on sexual orientation and gender identity, we’ve transformed the acronym LGBTQIA+ into a narrative that speaks of pride, listening and inclusion. This campaign, promoted by Arcigay Varese and funded by UNAR, the National Office Against Racial Discrimination, is dedicated to them – and to all of us – to raise awareness amongst those who do not know or do not want to know, to welcome those who feel excluded, and to say that the Arcobaleno Centre is here to listen to everyone’s stories.

Videos and YouTube Shorts to give everyone a voice, from L to A

At the heart of our story is the video posted on the Centro Arcobaleno YouTube channel, which has been reposted in short-form YouTube Shorts, on social media pages and featured in the news section of the daily newspaper Varesenews.it. The sixty-second video is a celebration of the campaign’s creative concept: behind the acronym LGBTQIA+ lie not just definitions, but stories. The edit, produced by Bedeschi Film Milano with music by Riccardo Cannea and Andrea Sartirani of MusicProduction, and narrated by Andrea Cecchi, is deliberately incisive, powerful and proud, because pride is one of the values that characterises our story.

Out of home, into the stories

The campaign has taken its messages to busy public spaces, where people’s eyes meet every day: bus shelters and bus stops. And also amongst the public, on banners displayed during events in which Arcigay Varese takes part and engages with the community.

Social media and radio announcements

Arcigay and Centro Arcobaleno’s social media channels are amplifying the campaign’s message through posts and Reels to reach the LGBTQIA+ community and foster a sense of pride and belonging.
With a 30-second radio advert, produced by Music Production featuring the voice of Andrea Cecchi and promoted on Spotify, the campaign also reaches those who are unfamiliar with the cause, those seeking answers, and those who may never have had the courage to ask questions.
